Government Notifies ₹1.27 Lakh Crore Semicon 2.0 to Boost India’s Chip Ecosystem
The government has notified the ₹1,27,500-crore Semicon 2.0 programme, laying out eligibility criteria and financial incentives for India’s semiconductor ecosystem. The scheme covers chip design, semiconductor fabrication, equipment and materials, advanced packaging, research and development, and talent development. It offers up to 40% fiscal support for silicon fabs, 35% for specialised fabs and advanced packaging, and 25% for conventional packaging.
Gujarat Extends Ban on Gutkha and Pan Masala for Another Year
The Gujarat government has extended its ban on gutkha, pan masala and other chewable products containing tobacco or nicotine for another year. The fresh prohibition order will come into effect from September 13. The government said the decision is aimed at protecting public health and controlling the consumption of tobacco and nicotine-based products.
Assam Bus-Truck Collision: 7 Killed, 5 Injured on NH-27
Seven people were killed and five others injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a goods truck on National Highway-27 in Assam’s Kamrup Metro district on Sunday evening. The bus was travelling from Nagaon towards Guwahati when it reportedly lost control and crossed the divider before hitting the truck. Police said the bus had 14 occupants, including a driver and helper. Local residents claimed a large pothole may have contributed to the crash, but authorities are still investigating the cause. The Assam government has announced ₹5 lakh compensation for each deceased person’s family, while the NHAI has been given seven days to repair potholes along the affected stretch.
10-Year-Old Girl Dies in Delhi After School Punishment Allegation; Government Orders Probe
A 10-year-old girl from a government school in East Delhi’s Vinod Nagar died on August 27 after a prolonged illness. Her family alleged that she had been punished at school for forgetting to bring a book and was made to stand at the back of the classroom with her hands raised before she collapsed. The family also alleged that she was later left locked inside the classroom. However, doctors at IHBAS said the girl had been undergoing treatment for subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, a rare and almost always fatal neurological disorder. The Delhi government has ordered an impartial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her illness and death.

Indian Rupee Ends August Stronger, Hits Near Four-Week High on RBI Support and Equity Inflows
