A shocking murder case has emerged from Guwahati, where a 25-year-old married woman was found dead inside her residence.

The victim, identified as Riya Talukdar Goswami, was found after neighbours reportedly alerted authorities about a foul smell coming from the flat in the Basisthapur area.

Police reached the residence and recovered her body. Investigators said the crime appeared to have occurred roughly 24 to 48 hours before the discovery.

Husband Surrenders

Riya’s husband, Ramanujan Goswami, has been identified by police as the prime suspect.

According to police officials cited in reports, Goswami surrendered and allegedly confessed to the killing. He was subsequently taken into custody for questioning as investigators worked to establish the sequence of events.

Police reportedly noticed bloodstains on the clothes he was wearing when he surrendered.

Police Recover Weapon

Investigators recovered a weapon from the residence that is suspected to have been connected with the crime.

Forensic and fingerprint teams examined the flat, while the victim’s body was sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a post-mortem examination.

The post-mortem and forensic findings are expected to help investigators establish the exact circumstances and timeline of the killing.

Neighbours Reported Disturbances

According to reports, neighbours heard loud noises and cries from the residence before the body was discovered.

Residents also reportedly told investigators that the couple had been living together for around six months and that they had frequently quarrelled. These accounts are part of the police investigation and have not independently established the motive for the killing.

Investigation Into Motive Underway

Police are now investigating what led to the alleged killing and whether any previous dispute or other circumstances played a role.

Authorities are expected to question the accused, examine forensic evidence and record statements from neighbours and other people connected with the couple.

The exact motive has not yet been officially established, and the investigation remains ongoing.
