Telangana Endowments Minister Konda Surekha returned to Hyderabad after concluding her Delhi visit. Speaking to the media at Shamshabad Airport, she spoke about her meetings with the Congress leadership and the developments surrounding her.
Surekha said she met AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Telangana Congress in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan in Delhi. She explained the developments concerning her and placed the issues before the party leadership.
According to Surekha, the high command assured her that the matters she raised would be considered and discussed within the party before taking a decision.
The development comes amid controversy over remarks made recently by Surekha’s daughter Susmitha Patel, which triggered a political storm within the Telangana Congress. Surekha has reportedly met Kharge several times and explained the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s remarks.
Kharge is understood to have advised party leaders to act responsibly and avoid statements that could cause damage to the Congress. He also reportedly made it clear that party-related matters should be discussed on the appropriate party platform.
Meanwhile, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mahesh Goud had earlier said that the AICC would decide whether action should be taken against the minister over remarks made by her daughter. He also said that disciplinary committee reports regarding earlier incidents had been forwarded to Telangana Congress affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan.
Goud described Konda Surekha as a senior, high-profile leader and said that any decision on disciplinary action against her would fall under the AICC’s jurisdiction.
With the issue now before the Congress high command, all eyes are on what decision the party leadership will take on Konda Surekha.
