Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese delivered a historic performance on Monday night, setting two WNBA rebounding records as the Dream defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71.
Reese grabbed a record 26 rebounds, surpassing Chamique Holdsclaw’s previous mark of 24 rebounds set in 2003. She also broke the WNBA single-season rebounding record during the same game.
New Single-Season Rebounding Record
Reese finished the game with 458 rebounds this season, moving seven ahead of the previous record of 451 set by A’ja Wilson in 2024.
The achievement came with six regular-season games still remaining, giving Reese an opportunity to extend the record further.
Another Double-Double for Reese
Despite scoring only 11 points, Reese recorded her 27th double-double of the season. She secured the milestone with a basket with 13.9 seconds remaining.
Her latest performance further strengthened her reputation as one of the WNBA’s most dominant rebounders. She is averaging around 12 rebounds per game this season.
Dream Continue Winning Run
The victory improved Atlanta’s record to 25-13 and completed a perfect 4-0 West Coast road trip.
The Dream have now defeated the Sparks nine consecutive times, including all three meetings between the teams this season.
Allisha Gray led Atlanta with 20 points, while Rhyne Howard added 18 and crossed the 3,000-point mark for her career.
Sparks Unable to Stop Atlanta
Los Angeles was led by Nneka Ogwumike, who recorded a season-high 27 points and 16 rebounds.
Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink each scored 15 points, but the Sparks could not overcome Atlanta’s strong second-half performance.
The loss dropped Los Angeles to 13-25, and the Sparks have now lost seven of their last eight games.
A Remarkable Rebounding Career
Reese, a three-time WNBA All-Star, has established herself as one of the league’s premier rebounders.
She previously set a WNBA rookie record by averaging 13.1 rebounds per game and recorded 15 consecutive double-doubles with the Chicago Sky in 2024, another league record at the time.
