A curious political pattern in Telangana is once again grabbing attention. Since the formation of Telangana, three key ministers from different governments have been removed from the state Cabinet amid unexpected political developments — Tatikonda Rajaiah in 2015, Etela Rajender in 2021, and now Konda Surekha.
In the first KCR government, Tatikonda Rajaiah served as Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister. But before completing even a year in office, he was dismissed from the Cabinet in January 2015. Allegations related to the handling of swine flu and issues surrounding the Health Department were among the matters discussed at the time.
Then came another major political shock in 2021. Etela Rajender, one of the key ministers in the KCR government, faced allegations related to assigned lands. Following a government inquiry, he was removed from the Cabinet. Rajender later quit the BRS, joined the BJP and won the Huzurabad by-election, marking a major turning point in Telangana politics.
Now, the spotlight has shifted to Konda Surekha.
After Congress came to power in 2023, Surekha took charge as the Minister for Endowments and Forests. Her removal from the Cabinet has once again triggered intense political debate. Internal differences within the Congress and disciplinary issues are being discussed as factors behind the decision.
But Surekha has strongly objected to her removal, saying she was not given an opportunity to explain her side and questioning the manner in which the decision was taken.
And here comes the interesting part.Tatikonda Rajaiah and Konda Surekha both hail from the erstwhile Warangal district, while Etela Rajender belongs to the erstwhile Karimnagar district.
So, is the repeated removal of key leaders simply a coincidence? Or does it reflect deeper political equations and internal power dynamics in Telangana?
