The Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation has raised approximately $222,000 through a community fundraising campaign aimed at supporting the holistic development of rural and tribal communities in India.

The campaign culminated in an August 28 event at the Granville Arts Center in Garland, bringing together donors, sponsors, volunteers, community organisations and supporters.

Funds Could Reach 342 Villages

Ekal said the funds raised through the campaign have the potential to benefit approximately 342 villages across India.

The support includes funding equivalent to 252 Ekal schools, along with around three special development projects. Each of those projects is expected to reach approximately 30 villages.

Strong Response From Dallas-Fort Worth Community

The fundraising event drew participation from donors, sponsors, civic leaders, community organisations, volunteers, families and other supporters.

The central focus of the gathering was to support rural and tribal communities through education, greater opportunities and holistic village development.

Kathak Rhythms, a Dallas-Fort Worth-based cultural organisation, presented a special Kathak performance showcasing Indian classical traditions through a presentation inspired by the silver screen.

The programme began with a tribute to the late Dhiren Kuntawala, who was the first president of the Ekal DFW chapter.

The evening also featured a ceremonial lamp lighting, the national anthems of the United States and India, recognition of distinguished guests and civic leaders, and a presentation highlighting Ekal's work and impact.
