Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in government policymaking, while stressing that human judgment and oversight must remain essential in the decision-making process.
Addressing a high-level meeting with Union government secretaries, PM Modi emphasized the need to use AI and technology to improve policymaking and governance. However, he cautioned that AI-based recommendations should support decision-makers rather than replace human judgment.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of bringing together government departments, universities and young people to encourage fresh ideas and diverse perspectives in policymaking. He urged officials to adopt a long-term approach while planning policies and programmes for India's future.
Modi described data as a national asset and called for better systems to enable secure and effective sharing of data across government departments. Improved data coordination, he said, could help different ministries make better-informed decisions and deliver services more efficiently.
He also stressed the need for greater coordination between government departments. Working in isolation, he said, should be addressed through stronger collaboration, shared responsibility and a team-oriented approach.
The Prime Minister further called for strengthening India's defence capabilities and domestic defence industry, with an emphasis on making the sector more competitive globally.
