Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The two leaders discussed India-Russia bilateral ties as well as major global developments.
The Ukraine war was a key issue during the meeting, with PM Modi making a strong appeal for peace.
Modi said that every day spent in war pushes humanity backwards, while every step towards peace brings renewed hope and enthusiasm. He stressed the need to move away from endless conflict and work towards an end to the war.
Referring to the Ukraine conflict, PM Modi said India has consistently discussed the issue with President Putin and remains committed to supporting all efforts towards peace.
He also called for an early and peaceful resolution to all issues, saying that peace is the message of the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Gautama Buddha.
Meanwhile, PM Modi invited President Putin to attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi this September, saying his visit would further strengthen India-Russia relations.
Following their bilateral meeting, Modi and Putin travelled together in the same car to the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games in Bishkek.
