India’s economy has recorded a strong 7.8 per cent real GDP growth in the April-June quarter of 2026-27, accelerating from 6.9 per cent during the same quarter last year.
The latest growth figure is also higher than the Reserve Bank of India’s 7 per cent forecast, despite continued global uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, wars and supply-chain disruptions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the numbers, calling the growth a reflection of the collective strength and hard work of Indians.
Taking a swipe at critics, PM Modi said those spreading “jhooth ki goonj” and pessimism about the Indian economy had been proven wrong by the latest GDP figures.
He said India must maintain the momentum and continue its journey towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The Prime Minister also urged citizens to embrace “Swadeshi” and “Vocal for Local”, support domestic products and keep more spending within the country. He also encouraged Indians to consider weddings in India rather than holding them abroad.
