Thiruvananthapuram, May 4 (IANS) In a stunning electoral setback for the ruling Left, a majority of the outgoing Cabinet led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been voted out, signalling a decisive shift in Kerala’s political landscape.

For the defeated Stalin, this verdict is almost a reminder of the misfortune that beset his father, who was brought down by Jayalalithaa in 1991, 2001 and 2011. Except that his father never lost an assembly seat.

Election Results 2026: The 2026 elections have placed the positions of several established opposition leaders under scrutiny. In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee; in Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin; and in Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, all face the prospect of losing office if the trends hold.

Vijay, as TVK chief, is also contesting Tiruchirappalli East, another DMK-held seat. His decision to fight from two non-safe constituencies underlines an aggressive strategy aimed at testing his appeal against the ruling party across regions.

Pressed on possible chief minister options, he said: "That will be decided by the Congress High Command. There is a procedure and I am not a competent person who can say anything about it or about who will be the next chief minister."

West Bengal Election Results: As the BJP maintained a strong lead in West Bengal, its state leader and possible Chief Ministerial candidate Suvendu Adhikari told NDTV that the party saw a consolidation of both Hindu and Adivasi votes.
