A political solution to the inter-State water dispute was reinitiated when the Odisha CM, on July 25, 2025, wrote to his Chhattisgarh counterpart proposing an amicable settlement of the Mahanadi water dispute. On August 1, 2025, the Chhattisgarh CM wrote back that the matter was under consideration.
